We are all under stress one time or the other. But some people are more prone to having stress than others. If your impatient, competitive, easily angered but tend to repress your emotions, then you belong to this category.

To determine how much stress there in your life, take a look at yourself in a mirror the next time you are in a frustrating situation, like in a traffic jam when you have to keep an important appointment.

Are you tensed? Is your jaw set tightly? Are your eyes wed up and are you frowning? These are signs of unnecessary muscle movement, and it denotes stress. Some signs that have been recognized as indicating undue stress are;

  • Tension
  • Anxiety
  • Insomnia
  • Change in Appetite
  • Chain-smoking

However, once these signs are recognized, stress should not be allowed to continue, as it may result in actual illness. The immune system can become depleted, increasing one’s susceptibility to infection. It has been determined that long term stress might even be a factor in serious conditions such as heart disease or cancer.
 
Stress can be overcome, but the very worst thing you can do is to use drugs, such as tranquilizers, sleeping pills, alcohol, caffeine, or cigarettes to combat it. Although, the use of these drugs may bring temporal respite, but they do not bring relief; stress will go on wreaking havoc on the sufferer’s system.
 
The most important thing to do in learning ho is to cope with stress is to identify the area of undue stress in your life. Is it your job, marriage, relations, your home, or your workload? Do you have problems in the areas of your finance?
 
 
The consider what can be done to improve the situation. Are you allowing other peoples’ problem to disturb you? Since it may not be possible to change the circumstance, it is vital that you improve your attitude. You can actually decide not to let people or events bother you. Make sure you are not taking on other people’s problems or allowing them to bother you with their worries.
 
 

Here are some proven stress-reducing and positive adaptation strategies and techniques you can practice;

 
  1. Get into the habit of taking a couple of deep breaths before any challenging situation, to increase the amount of oxygen circulation in the body.
  2. Taking short breaks every hour or so from concentrated work schedule can also help tremendously
  3. Make out time to visit some recreational centers during the weekend
  4. Ensure you sleep at least 6 hours every day
  5. Avoid the use of drugs like opioids
  6. when you feel stressed listen to cool songs in a serene environment.
