This list is based on the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020 by subject. The United States
The United States is home to some of the most prestigious universities in the world, with schools like Harvard and Princeton ranking among the top 10 globally. The University of California Berkeley is one of two original UCs (the other being UCLA) and is known as “the birthplace of modern ecology” because it was where environmental science was born. The University of China (Tianjin), commonly known as Tsinghua University, is a national research university located in Beijing and the oldest institution of higher learning in China. With a history spanning more than 100 years, it has developed into a comprehensive university covering nearly every field of learning.
The University of China (Beijing) was officially established on June 1st 1902 as an educational institute for imperial civil servants by Minguo Emperor Guangxu under the leadership of Li Hung-chang and Zhan Tianyou with its present name adopted in 1912 after being renamed from Imperial Polytechnic College. The university adopted its current name in 1949 when it became part of Chinese Communist Party’s systematization program for higher education institutions nationwide. Its predecessor was created during Yuan Dynasty (1271 – 1368).

Australia is well known for its top universities and colleges. There are a total of nine universities in Australia that are consistently ranked as the best in the world. The University of Melbourne was first established in 1853 and is one of the oldest universities in Australia. The University of New South Wales (UNSW) was founded in 1949 and is also an internationally renowned institution that offers a wide range of courses from undergraduate degrees to postgraduate research programs.
The University of Sydney was formally established in 1850, while The University of Queensland began admitting students only two years later, making them two out of the three oldest institutions in Australia today. It’s no surprise that these four leading institutions would be among those recognized as having some of the finest learning environments worldwide!
